Lent 2022

Dear Plymouth family and friends,

Lent begins this Wednesday, March 2! Lent is a season within the liturgical church calendar that starts the Wednesday 40 days before Easter (not counting Sundays). It is a time of watching and waiting as we prepare our hearts for the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Lent can be a blur with our packed schedules, school spring breaks, and long to-do lists. Our Lenten theme: Witnesses at the Cross is an invitation for the Plymouth family to connect the season of Lent with all its mystery to the present day. How to approach the season of Lent with all of the amazing, mysterious traditions and experiences is a question I ask every year. How do God’s people make Lent relevant in 2022? It gets harder and harder to connect the liturgical seasons of the church to a world that seems ever changing.

This Lenten season I am excited that we have kept the traditions alive through our multiple worship services, but created space to delve deeper into understanding Lent for the present day with our Adult Education opportunities, Family Lent Event, and Youth Lenten Lock-In.

We hope that you will join us for some, or all, of this Lenten season’s activities as we explore what it means to be a Witness at the Cross in 2022!

Weekly worship

Historical Reflection and Modern-Day Connection

to the Witnesses at the Cross

Join us in worship during Lent as we:

· encounter historical figures through skits dramatizing the accounts of the Biblical eyewitnesses,

· hear from modern witnesses as Plymouth members and friends share their experiences, and

· relate these testimonies to our own lives.

Some of the people we’ll meet or reference include the other victims, the bystanders and scoffer, a soldier, the Beloved disciple, the women, and Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus.

This year's Easter Offering will go to The Guest House of Milwaukee. Their mission is to provide shelter, housing, job training, education, clinical services, and case management to Milwaukee’s homeless men who seek to transform their lives with dignity and purpose.

Plymouth has been actively supporting Guest House since December 25, 2015, when members of our community prepared and served a Christmas meal to the residents. Since then, we have continued to provide at least one evening meal per month, prepared and served by members of our church community. Please generously support The Guest House through our special collection on Sunday, April 17th.
