Worship and Arts Groups

• Bell Choir - Ringers make music with a 3.5 octave set of Whitechapel handbells.  Rehearsals are alternating Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 in the choir room. 

• Chancel Choir - Singers enhance worship with SATB anthems in a variety of styles.  Rehearsals are alternating Wednesday evenings from 6:45 to 8:00 in the choir room, and Sunday mornings at 8:45.  

• Plymouth Chorale - Singers from Plymouth and elsewhere in the community present two concerts annually, usually December & April.  The focus is on larger works (cantatas, masses, etc.) Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings for 90 minutes, alternating start times at 7:30 or 8:00 p.m.  

• Scripture Readers - This group connects volunteers with opportunities to read scripture in worship.  

• Ushers and Greeters - These friendly folks welcome people to worship on Sunday morning.

• Liturgical Arts Guild - Artists of all types - visual, spoken word, music, movement - connect with each other to fan the sparks of imagination to create inspired worship moments.  

Service and Advocacy Groups

• Cathedral Center - Once a month Plymouth volunteers prepare and then serve a meal to the guests of the Cathedral Center, a shelter for women and families in downtown Milwaukee. Both preparers and servers are welcome.   Contact Chris Jameson for more information.

• Guest House - On a quarterly basis, members of Plymouth prepare and serve a Sunday evening meal for the residents of The Guest House of Milwaukee which provides shelter, housing, and education services to homeless men who see to transform their lives with dignity and purpose. The time commitment is no more than 2 hours to prepare and deliver food or to serve the meal.   Contact David Franczyk or Kris Devitt  for more information or to volunteer.

• Plymouth Justice Network (formerly MICAH Core Team) works to transform situations of economic injustice in our city through grassroots education, engagement, and advocacy.  Contact Bill and Jane Audette for more information.

• Pathfinders - Our community makes a meal once a week for Pathfinders, an organization serving homeless and at-risk youth.  The meal is served on Tuesday nights for the open-mic program at the Pathfinders Drop In Center, 4200 N. Holton Street, Milwaukee. Contact Donna Kummer for more information.

• The Quilters make quilts for babies baptized at church, Pathfinders Homeless Shelter, and many other people and organizations. They typically meet on the 1st Friday of the month at church.  Contact Pat Mueller for more information.

• The Loops Of Love Shawl Ministry is committed to knitting and crocheting prayer shawls for the Palliative Care Team at Froedtert Hospital and for others in need of comfort.  Other items include: chemo caps, lap robes, scarves, hats, mittens, pocket prayer shawls, and more.  Contact the church office for more information. 

• St. Ben's - Once a month Plymouth volunteers prepare the food which is served to Milwaukee’s largest meal program.  This is a great opportunity for people whose schedules don’t allow them to be on-site at a meal program, but who would like to help.  Contact Barb Hoppe for more information.

Care and Fellowship Groups

• Faith Circle, a women’s social group, meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at different member's home at 6:00 for a potluck supper and an evening of conversation.  Contact Clare Anderson for more information.

• Gathering of Gardeners  is a team of volunteers committed to beautifying the church yards.  Contact Barb Hoppe for more information.

• Game Night is a social gathering once a month to play board and card games with church friends.  Contact David Franczyk or Kris Devitt for more information or to volunteer.

• Sarah's Circle is a group of women associated with Plymouth Church, UCC, in Milwaukee, WI. We gather monthly for good conversation, support, and fun, sharing the joys and concerns of our lives. The group is open to any woman with a connection to Plymouth Church, the United Church of Christ, or who is a friend of any current member.  We meet on the third Sunday of each month, except during the Summer. We're very open to new members or occasional guests.  Contact Sally Witte for more information.

• Women's Book Group meets once a month, usually on the first Tuesday of the month at Fiddleheads on Port Washington Rd, from 4PM to 6PM. We read an eclectic mix of fiction and nonfiction, classics and new titles, which are suggested by our members and chosen by consensus.  Contact Joanne Kopischke for more information.

Leadership Groups

The Leadership Groups are elected roles within the congregation.  Contact the church office if you are interested in serving with a leadership group:  email Crystal Stinemates .  

• Council - The Church Council provides strategic vision, fiduciary oversight, fund development, and generative governance of the congregation.  The officers of the congregation, Chairs of each of the several boards, and three at-large members elected by the congregation compose the Council.  

• BOOM: Board of Outreach and Mission - This board undertakes the responsibility to involve members of the congregation in programs of education, service and action, to the betterment of society in keeping with the Christian understanding of God's love and justice. It also serves to inform the congregation of the needs and work of the wider church. It promotes our benevolent giving and coordinates special offerings and mission appeals. This group meets once a month most recently on the second Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the church. A member considering the Mission Board will have a strong commitment to social action.

• Christian Education - This board develops the structure of Christian education for children, youth, and adults. Through different committees within the board items such as curriculum, programs of education and fellowship are established for all age levels. The CE Board recruits and trains members for teaching roles. This board interacts with the other boards to create a spiritually rewarding learning environment. Meetings are held once a month usually on the second Sunday at 11:30 am. A calling or interest in teaching or learning would typify a member.

• Deacons - This board's general responsibilities include care for members of the congregation, recruitment and integration of new members, planning and conducting worship and the administration of the sacraments in consultation with the Ministers and Director of Music. The board oversees the music program as it relates to worship. Deacons also foster social activities in the church. Meetings are held once a month on the first Tuesday at 7 pm. A desire to enhance fellowship within our community and help in the creation of a meaningful worship experience is present in the board members.

• Stewards - The primary responsibility of this board is the maintenance and custody of all church property. It also manages and safeguards the funds of the church. The Stewards oversee the property of the church and create plans for building maintenance and restoration.  They promote systematic and proportional giving to support Plymouth and the United Church of Christ. This board meets once month, usually on the second Monday of each month at 7 pm at the church. A background in finance, law, architecture or physical plant oversight would be useful as well as a desire to develop both financial and personal stewardship.
